Tragic Death of Worker in Cutzamala System Incident

The Government of the State of Mexico announced the death of a worker from the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM) who was participating in the containment efforts of a water leak in the Cutzamala System. The Secretariat of Water and CAEM expressed their sorrow for the death of Israel Gutiérrez Chávez, who was part of the teams deployed to address the situation that occurred in Atizapán de Zaragoza.

The leak in the distribution macrocircuit of the Cutzamala System, specifically in the Adolfo López Mateos Los Olivos neighborhood, was attributed to a malfunction in an air release valve, which caused a considerable release of water, according to authorities. The incident required the prompt intervention of CAEM technicians.

In response to the emergency, various maneuvers were carried out to reduce the pressure in the affected area, such as closing the valve in the Bellavista tank and opening others towards the Zapata and Lomas Verdes tanks. Despite the efforts made, unfortunately, one of the workers, Israel Gutiérrez Chávez, lost his life while performing his duties.

Various witnesses present in the area shared videos through social media showing an impressive column of pressurized water, demonstrating the magnitude of the event and the importance of the containment efforts carried out by CAEM personnel.
